Description

The Black Forest is one of the largest low mountain ranges in Germany - it was obvious that we divided it into a North and South band for climbers. The Battert naturally takes up a large part of the north band. It is a climbing destination of supra-regional, even transnational importance. Climbing on its towers and steep walks has a tradition going back well over a hundred years. The type of climbing here differs significantly from the usual piton-supported limestone climbing: on the steep primary rock walls, excellent foot technique is at least as important as thick forearms. It is also helpful to be able to use mobile belay devices such as cams and wedges - the bolts are distributed rather generously. If you're up for it, you'll find an almost inexhaustible range of wonderful climbing routes in the Battert in a charming scenic setting. And classic climbing routes that will stay in your memory for a long time. But the other areas described in the volume are also always worth a visit: you need a pretty thick skin for the rugged Granitzinnen of the Bühlertal, you can practically drive to the start of the Gausbacher Straßenwand in the Murg Valley, while in Bad Herrenalb you can take the S1 from Karlsruhe. In the Nagold valley there is delicious sandstone and near Schramberg the famous Falkenstein - for all those who want an interesting alternative to the well-known Albkalk. Black Forest novices will be surprised at the variety of climbing opportunities hidden between the dark fir treetops.
